Dorian: This young lady. Manager: Miss Sibyl Vane, my lord, in the role of Ophelia. Sibyl: ...see that noble and most sovereign reason like sweet bells jangled, out of tune and harsh. That unmatch'd form and feature of blown youth blasted with ecstasy. Oh, woe is me. Manager: May I present the Theatre Royale's Miss Sibyl Vane, my lord? Gray: I'm not really a lord. I don't know why he keeps saying that. Sibyl: We don't get many gentlemen in this theatre. Gray: Really? Well, then, I shall recommend it to them. Sibyl: May I ask what brings you to my dressing room? Gray: Well, I...I just happened to be passing the theatre and...Well, you see, I was in the gin shop... Sibyl: I know. Gray: You remember? Well, a friend took me there for the first time. Well, I say the first time. Of course, I have...Well, I wanted to... wanted to say hello, but then you left with... Sibyl: With Jim. Gray: Yes. Quite. Jim. Sibyl: My brother. Gray: Brother? Sibyl: Mm. Gray: Well, that's splendid! Sorry. It was wrong of me to... Please forgive my intrusion, Miss Vane. Sibyl: Wait! There's something you haven't told me. Gray: Yes, of course. I do beg your pardon. Ophelia is a most challenging role and your performance this evening was...impeccable. In fact, extraordinary. In fact...you are extraordinary. And when I saw you on the stage, and even more so, now I stand before you, I am awestruck and humbled by your radiance. Sibyl: I meant your name. You didn't tell me your name. *************************** Sibyl: So, how many other girls do you bring here? Gray: Hundreds. Thousands. Sibyl: You must be courting dozens at least. Gray: No. Sibyl: You can tell me the truth. Gray: There's only you. There's only you. ***************** Henry: Tell me, what are your actual relations with this young thing? Basil: A fraction of respect, man. Gray: It's not like that. Sibyl's sacred. Henry: It's only the scared things that are worth touching. People nowadays fear their passions. Gray: Well, I don't. Henry: Of course you do. We're taught terror from the nursery. Terror of God, or, even worse, of scandal. We're taught to spend our entire lives cowering in self-denial. The truth, Mr Gray, is that every impulse we strangle only poisons us. Basil: You'll make him wish he'd never mentioned the girl. Tailor: Well, Monsieur. Henry: There's something missing. Gray: Thank you, Harry. Gray: I took the liberty of filling it with my blend. ******************** Sibyl: Oh, Dorian. It's beautiful. Gray: I just thought it would suit you. Sibyl: I should be going. Jim will worry. Gray: Of course. Or we could...I mean...You could...stay...here...with me. We shouldn't be afraid of our feelings, Sib. Sibyl: It's just...I've seen other girls who give themselves, and then I've seen what becomes of them. Gray: I love you. Forgive me. I didn't mean... A court in eastern China sentenced a man to death Saturday for attacking 29 kindergarten students and three teachers with a knife, state-run media said.

The Taixing Intermediate People's Court found Xu Yuyuan, 47, guilty of intentional homicide after a half-day trial, Xinhua news agency said.

Xu told the court that his rage against society motivated him in the April 29 attacks, according to Xinhua. But he appealed the death sentence, arguing that the punishment was too severe since no one died in the attacks, Xinhua said.

Chinese penal code says a person can be convicted of intentional homicide for acting on an intent to kill, the news agency reported.

A police probe found Xu had been unemployed since 2001, when he was fired by a local insurance company. He told police he carried out the attack because he was angry about a series of business and personal humiliations, Xinhua said.

About 300 people attended Saturday's open trial, according to Xinhua.

Xu's sentence was the second death penalty conviction after a recent spate of school attacks that have prompted public outrage across China.

Zheng Minsheng, 42, was sentenced to death and executed on April 28 for attacking students in front of an elementary school in Fujian province, killing eight and wounding several others. Zheng also used a knife in the attacks, Xinhua reported.

Authorities said Zheng carried out the attack because he was frustrated at "failures in his romantic life," the news agency said.

At least four other such attacks on school children in China have been reported since March.

Guns are strictly regulated in China, but until recently large knives were not. Chinese authorities have recently issued a regulation requiring people to register with their national ID cards when they buy knives longer that 15 centimeters.

Other measures have been put in place.

In April, the Ministry of Education ordered kindergartens, elementary and secondary schools to restrict strangers from entering the campuses. The ministry instructed schools across the country to hire security guards, install security facilities and ensure that pupils were escorted home. Schools were also urged to teach pupils to how to protect themselves.

In some schools, security guards have been armed with "forks," long poles with semi-circular prongs that can be used to fight assailants.

C•Ronaldo: to be crowned

Cristiano Ronald

A much-vaunted prodigy when snapped up by Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in 2003, Cristiano Ronaldo is now perhaps, apart from David Beckham, the best-known player on the planet. After winning all there was to win with the Red Devils, Ronaldo earned his dream move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2009 for a world record fee of £80m. Fast and tricky, Ronaldo possesses a thunderous dipping, swerving shot and is one of the most dangerous set-piece exponents in the game. It is time for Ronaldo to truly live up to his star billing on the world stage.

She solved it creatively by getting together with like-minded people. Wen, a sociology graduate, worked as a civil servant at a governmental training institute in Beijing for three years. “Sitting in front of my computer in the office, I always fancied holding a cup of coffee and enjoying the sunshine. english tutor,中學補習,補習社-Comic collection could yield serious money

Michael Rorrer said his great aunt once mentioned having comic books she would one day give to him and his brother, but it was a passing remark made when they were boys and still into superheroes. Ruby Wright gave no indication at the time - and she died last February, leaving it unclear - that her late husband's comic collection contained some of the most prized issues ever published. The 345 comics were slated to sell at auction in New York on Wednesday, and were expected to fetch more than $2 million. Rorrer, 31, of Oxnard, California, discovered his great uncle Billy Wright's comics neatly stacked in a basement closet while helping clear out his great aunt's Martinsville, Virginia, home a few months after her death. He said he thought they were cool but didn't realize until months later how valuable they were. Rorrer, who works as an operator at a plant where oil is separated from water, said he was telling a co-worker about Captain America No. 2, a 1941 issue in which the hero bursts in on Adolf Hitler, when the co-worker mused that it would be something if he had Action Comics No. 1, in which Superman makes his first appearance. "I went home and was looking through some of them and there it was," said Rorrer, who then began researching the collection's value in earnest. He found out that his great uncle had managed as a boy to buy a staggering array of what became the most valuable comic books ever published. "This is just one of those collections that all the guys in the business think don't exist anymore," said Lon Allen, managing director of comics for Heritage Auctions, the Dallas-based auction house overseeing the sale. The collection includes 44 of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide's list of top 100 issues from comics' golden age. "The scope of this collection is, from a historian's perspective, dizzying," said J.C. Vaughn, the guide's associate publisher. Once Rorrer realized how important the comics were, he called his mother, Lisa Hernandez, 54, of League City, Texas, who had divided them into two boxes. She sent one to him and kept the other one at her house for his brother. Rorrer and his mother then went through their boxes, checking comic after comic off the list. "I couldn't believe what I had sitting there upstairs at my house," Rorrer said. Hernandez, who works as an operator at a chemical plant, said it really hit her how valuable the comics were when she saw the look on Allen's face after he came to her house to look through the comics she had there. "It was kind of hard to wrap my head around it," Allen said. Rorrer said he only remembers his aunt making the fleeting reference to the comics when she learned that he and his brother, Jonathan Rorrer, now 29, of Houston, liked comic books. He said his great uncle, who died in 1994 at age 66, never mentioned his collection. The Action Comics No. 1 - which Wright bought when he was about 11 - is expected to sell for about $325,000. A Detective Comics No. 27, the 1939 issue that features the first appearance of Batman, is expected to fetch about $475,000. And the Captain America No. 2 with Hitler on the cover that had caught Rorrer's eye? That's expected to bring in about $100,000. Allen, who called the collection "jaw-dropping," noted that Wright "seemed to have a knack" for picking up the ones that would be the most valuable and managed to keep them in good condition. The core of his collection is from 1938 to 1941. Hernandez said it makes sense that her uncle - even as a boy - had a discerning eye. The man who went to The College of William and Mary before having a long career as a chemical engineer for DuPont was smart, she said. And, she added, Wright was an only child whose mother kept most everything he had. She said that they found games from the 1930s that were still in their original boxes. "There were some really hard to find books that were in really, really great condition," said Paul Litch, the primary grader at Certified Guaranty Co, an independent certification service for comic books. "You can see it was a real collection," Litch said. "Someone really cared about these and kept them in good shape." QUESTIONS 1 How much is a set of valuable comic books expected to fetch at auction? 2 Where did they come from? 3 When were they purchased? Answers 1. $2 million 2. Private collection of Billy Wright 3. Mostly from 1938 to 1941

english tutor,中學補習,補習社-Clinton: N. Korea must face consequences over sinking

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned Friday that North Korea must faces consequences over the

alleged sinking of a South Korean warship which has stoked tensions in the divided peninsular. A South Korean military report published this week claimed that the sinking of the Cheonan was caused by

a North Korean torpedo attack.

Pyongyang denies that claim and said Friday that it could back out of a nonaggression pact between the

neighbors if Seoul attempted to punish it over the sinking.

North Korea and South Korea have remained officially at war since an armistice in 1953 brought their

three-year Cold War conflict to an end.

"I think it's important to send a clear message to North Korea that provocative actions have

consequences," Clinton said Friday as she began a week-long Asian tour in Tokyo, Japan. "We cannot allow

the attack on South Korea to go unanswered by the international community."

She said she was consulting with international allies to find the appropriate reaction.

Meanwhile, North Korea said Friday that it would "regard the present situation as the phase of a war"

after South Korean President Lee Myung-bak accused it of engaging in military provocation and violating

the armistice agreement between the nations, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

South Korean military officials on Thursday announced the results of an official investigation into the

sinking of the Cheonan, which concluded that North Korea fired a torpedo that cut the vessel in half.

Lee vowed Thursday to take "resolute countermeasures" against North Korea for its alleged attack,

according to his office.

Should South Korea take steps to retaliate, North Korea will "strongly react to them with such merciless

punishment as the total freeze of the inter-Korean relations, the complete abrogation of the north-south

agreement on nonaggression and a total halt to the inter-Korean cooperation undertakings," North Korea's

Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea said in a statement, Yonhap reported.

North Korea denied Thursday that it sunk the warship, which went down on March 26, killing 46 sailors.

"We had already warned the South Korean group of traitors not to make reckless remarks concerning the

sinking of warship Cheonan of the puppet navy," North Korea's national defense commission said in a

statement Thursday responding to the investigators' report, according to the Korean Central News Agency.

"Nevertheless, the group of traitors had far-fetchedly tried to link the case with us without offering

any material evidence," the statement said.

The South Korean military group that presented its report on the ship's sinking Thursday comprises

experts from South Korea, Australia, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States.

"The evidence points overwhelmingly to the conclusion that the torpedo was fired by a North Korean

submarine," said Dr. Yoon Duk-yong, the group's co-chair.

"There is no other plausible explanation," he said.

China asked both sides to stay calm to avoid an "escalation of the situation," said the country's foreign

affairs ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu.

U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen said the status of the 28,500 U.S. troops in South

Korea has not changed because of the findings.

"They are on their normal state of readiness. They are engaged very routinely out there," Mullen said.

The United States is bound by treaty to assist South Korea if it goes to war.

Japan said it stands behind South Korea. "We had received extensive explanation from the ROK [Republic of

Korea] side prior to today's announcement," Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama said in a statement.

"On this basis, Japan strongly supports the ROK. North Korea's action cannot be condoned by any means,

and Japan together with the international community strongly condemns North Korea," the prime minister

said.

"In handling this matter, Japan will continue its close coordination and cooperation for regional peace

and stability with the countries concerned, including the ROK and the United States."

Military and civilian briefers said that damage to the Cheonan's hulk and injuries on the bodies of the

sailors were consistent with the kind of "shock-wave and bubble effect" produced by a homing torpedo

attack. Seismic data, witness statements and computer modeling provided further corroboration, Yoon said.

Briefers displayed torpedo parts recovered from the Cheonan wreck site: part of a motor, a shaft and

parts of the propeller. Korean writing, with the words "Number 1" were inscribed on fragments of the

weapon. The parts displayed in a glass case were compared and shown to be identical to the blueprint of a

7.35 meter torpedo, obtained from a North Korean weapons export brochure.

General Han Won-dong, director of South Korea's Defense Intelligence Agency, declined to state how or

where South Korea had obtained the brochure, citing security sensitivities.

International members of the investigative team agreed with the conclusions.

"We worked closely and collaboratively, using separate tools and methods," said Adm. Thomas Eccles of the

U.S. Navy, adding that all members of the international team were in agreement.

Military officials also identified what they believe to be the type of vessel responsible.

"A few small submarines and a mother ship supporting them left a North Korea naval base in the West Sea

[Yellow Sea] two - three days prior to the attack," Yoon said, citing information gathered by a

multinational task force made up of Australia, Canada, South Korea, the UK and the U.S.

The likely culprit was a midget submarine of the Yeono ("Salmon"), a vessel equipped with night vision

equipment, Han said.

This is not the first clash the two Koreas have had near the maritime border.

In 1999 and 2002, there were fatal naval clashes between surface patrol boats near the inter-Korean

maritime border in the Yellow Sea. A November shooting incident also may have killed North Korean

sailors.

However, the use of a submarine is a significant escalation in terms of weapons used. It's also the

deadliest North Korean attack since the bombing of a South Korean airliner killed 115 people in 1987.

Gen. Park Jung-i, who co-chaired the investigative committee, said that South Korea would give the

evidence to the Armistice Commission that oversees the ceasefire that ended the 1950-1953 on the Korean

peninsula. The commission would make the findings available to North Korea, he said.

Asked what defensive moves the South Korean navy is taking to prevent a recurrence, Han said that that

the navy would establish anti-submarine detection measures, but admitted the difficulty of detecting an

underwater submarine once it has left its base.

London Olympics triggers record rent for home

39.5%。 A seven-bedroom house in London's upmarket Mayfair district will likely set a British record rent of 433,000 pounds per month as landlords cash in on demand for space during this summer's Olympic Games. The house has a floor space equivalent to three and a half tennis courts spread over three floors and includes a swimming pool, cinema and seven bathrooms. It can be also rented for 100,000 pounds a week. In addition to a six-bedroom flat near the Harrods store in Knightsbridge that is for rent at the same weekly sum, it is the most expensive home on the findaproperty.com website, which displays houses being marketed by major estate agents. "The figure is unprecedented for an open-market rental," said Jemma Scott, head of residential corporate services at real estate agency Knight Frank. "It is purely due to the Olympics which, as a rule of thumb, will see monthly rents become weekly rents before reverting to normal after the Games." The house would likely attract interest from overseas individuals in the Far East, Middle East and Russia, she said. London homeowners are increasing rents by up to six times to meet demand from an estimated 11 million sports fans, media and corporate clients who will come to the city for the world's biggest sporting event this summer. The total Olympics rental market for flats, apartments or houses could be worth 314 million pounds, based on one in three homeowners considering letting out some or all of their properties, according to a survey by findaproperty.com last year. The luxury end of London's housing market has been buoyed by demand from overseas investors looking to shield their wealth from the euro zone crisis and Arab spring uprisings. Prices for the best homes rose 39.5 percent between March 2009 and last November, Knight Frank said. Renting homes was popular among certain wealthy individuals as it provided a greater level of privacy than a hotel, Scott said.

London's Mascots are Revealed

They have frightened some and enchanted others. They are Wenlock and Mandeville, mascots of the London Olympic Games. The one-eyed figures join the large family of mascots that includes the Five Fuwa of Beijing (2008), the bear Misha of Moscow (1980) and many others. Wenlock is the name of the English village considered by many to be the birthplace of the modern Olympics. People think its local games inspired Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who founded the International Olympic Committee. The other mascot's name is a reference to the village of Stoke Mandeville, where the Paralympic movement began. The duet of mascots is a central part of London's merchandising strategy and will feature in everything from T-shirts to tea towels. No doubt they will be seen under children's arms as cuddly toys. Some adult commentators think that the mascots are creepy and might scare youngsters. However, children were consulted during their creation. The 2012 Committee Chairman, Sebastian Coe, said: "We want them to be part of our fan base. We want them to engage with young people. They have in large part been designed and driven by what young people want." The organisers of the Games are keen to avoid another controversy like the one that surrounded the unveiling of the puzzle-style Olympic logo in 2007. It was criticised by a sceptical British public. The video used to promote it was even claimed to trigger seizures in a few people. Young fans like their mascots to come with a backstory. Children's author Michael Morpurgo came up with the idea that the mascots origin, was from the last drops of molten steel left over from the construction of the Olympic Stadium. Adults and organisers might argue but the most important audience for Wenlock and Mandeville are children. Ten-year-old Kira, from Essex in England, wrote to the BBC to say: "I think it is wicked! I love the Olympics and so does my sister!"
